'The Winds of Winter' latest news: George R. R. Martin assures fans that the sixth novel is in the works

For the longest time, fans of the highly popular "A Song of Ice and Fire" novel series have been waiting for an official announcement regarding the possible release of the series' sixth novel, "The Winds of Winter."

Unfortunately, it may still be a while until they can get any confirmation as the book's author — George R.R. Martin — reportedly still has "many pages" to write.

Martin has, of course, been quite busy with his tight schedule, which included his recent appearance in the 2016 Emmy Awards event. The author was present during the event to receive several awards for the HBO television adaptation of his novels, "Game of Thrones." The show received a total of 12 awards during the event, which included awards for writing, directing, and the show's second consecutive Outstanding Drama Series award.

The author had also recently congratulated the people he had worked with on the set of "Game of Thrones." He posted the congratulatory message on his personal blog which he then ended by saying that he was already back home and that he was ready to catch up on his work. Fans were delighted to read the author's words as it might mean that he was now ready to finally finish his long awaited novel.

In an interview with Deadline, Martin mentioned that he actually still has a lot of work to do to finish the novel itself. Unfortunately, he did not disclose any possible release dates for the book just yet and only mentioned that nothing is set in stone as of the moment.

"I do have thousands of pages of fake history of everything that led up to 'Game of Thrones,' so there's a lot of material there and I'm writing more." Martin said.

The author's publisher — Random House Publishing — also recently debunked a number of rumors and clarified that the book was not going to be released in March 2017. As of the moment, there is still no fixed release date for "The Winds of Winter" and fans would likely still have to wait for an official announcement from either Martin himself or from any of his publishers.
