"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 may very well be the final season of the long-running vampire drama. A recent time slot shakeup moved the series from its usual Thursday schedule to Friday nights, which Zap2it says are "less popular."

As per Melty, getting booted to a different schedule in the world of primetime television is as good as facing the chopping block – it isn't always a good sign. That being said, fans are growing anxious about the show's fate.

The change takes place next year to give way to the launch of "The Flash" and "Arrow" spinoff "Legends of Tomorrow" and the new season of "The 100" both on Jan. 21. "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 should then be aired every Friday starting Jan. 29.

Looking back at what "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 has been so far, it would seem that Nina Dobrev aka Elena's exit had a big impact on the show that it totally changed in aura and feel, which some think isn't a bad thing at all.

According to Zap2it, viewers may not have liked the idea of Elena Gilbert, who had been the center of the show for six seasons and a character they came to love and looked forward to see, is no longer in the series.

The site says that along with Dobrev may have been a throng of fans who are not interested watching the Salvatore brothers Damon and Stefan without Elena. Ever since it was announced that the star was leaving the beloved series, media outlets were worried if "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 would survive and the time slot change adds to the worry.

Among the people worried about the show's fate was Ian Somerhalder aka Damon, Elena's man. "I thought it was going to be a huge departure for the typical formula of our show," the actor told Variety.

"By virtue of the fact that it wasn't a huge leap for mankind, as far as changing it up, there were some differences that sort of mixed up the formula," he explained, adding that the necessary changes are still doing good. In fact, he believes that the show is doing better.

Whether or not "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 stays or goes remains to be seen. At the moment, fans can tune in tomorrow night, Dec. 3, on The CW for a new episode titled "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me."
