As the FOX's new television series, "The Gifted," is now on its way to its seventh episode, "eXtreme measures," its connection with "X-Men" is now gradually being revealed. In fact, its connection with the team of mutant superheroes cannot be denied. It has been known that the X-Men, the Brotherhood of Mutants, and the Mutant Liberation Front are all part of the show. Although the X-Men and the Mutant Underground are known for working independently, the two might be more connected than what fans believe.
In "The Gifted" season 1 episode 6 titled "Got your siX," it was revealed that the X-Men was responsible for selecting the Mutant Underground's members. This was hinted when Thunderbird (Blair Redford) asked the Dreamer (Elena Satine) if the initial was sure of picking him. Their conversation also unveiled that the X-Men warned them of the imminent war before they were gone.
This might mean that the X-Men did not simply disappear but just took a little hiding from the public's eye. The group may also be the one responsible for creating the Mutant Underground to assure other mutants that a different team would help them while they are away.
Hence, this just proves that "The Gifted" is connected to the "X-Men." In fact, its story shows the influence of "Days of Future Past." This even fits the Hound's (Andrew Benator) arrival and the possible appearance of Rachel Summers, Comicbook cited.
Meanwhile, talking about Rachel Summers, "got you siX" also referenced the known "X-Men" writer Chris Claremont, who created the mutant daughter of Scott Summers and Jean Grey. The semi-truck, which John Proudstar (Blair Redford) and Reed Strucker (Stephen Moyer) planned to smuggle Eclipse (Sean Teale), Reed, and young Andy Strucker (Percy Hynes White), has a logo of Claremont Interstate Movers.
Apparently, that was a big reference to the "X-Men" veteran writer, Claremont. He was the one who helped title the "X-Men" series from 1975 to 1991. He, too, co-created the characters of Rogue, Emma Frost, Gambit, Psylocke, and Mystique. He even penned the franchise's spinoffs "The New Mutants," "Excalibur," and the storylines of "Dark Phoenix Saga," "Days of Future Past," and "Demon Bear Saga."
"The Gifted" season 1 airs every Monday at 9 p.m. EST on FOX.
