It seems like love is in the air in the upcoming second half of "The Fosters" season 5. Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) will get a boyfriend again and there is some hope for both Brandon (David Lambert) and Grace (Meg DeLacy).
After her experience with her past boyfriend, it might seem hard for Mariana to open up to love again. However, that will not be the case in the coming episodes according to the show's executive producer Joanna Johnson who spoke with TV Line. When Mariana danced with Mat (Jordan Rodrigues) at prom, fans could not help but wonder if the two were going to end up together again.
It did seem clear that the two of them still have something for each other, and Johnson revealed that anything is possible. Mariana has gone about 18 episodes without a boyfriend. However, in the second half of the season, Mariana will have her options open. Could she end up with Mat? It remains to be seen.
As for her ex, Nick (Louis Hunter), he will also be coming back in the second half of season 5. As fans know, the finale of season 4 showed Mariana getting a text message from an unknown number. The sender claimed to know something about the scandal at the Anchor Beach Charter School, and it turned out to be Nick.
Nick was the one who caused problems for Mariana when they broke up. He turned into a crazy psychopath that had a number of school kids taken as hostage. Nick even went to stalk Mariana despite being on house arrest.
Johnson shared that it is uncertain what Nick's motives are when he reaches out to Mariana again. It is up to Mariana to decide if he is just baiting her or not, and it should be interesting to see how she will handle this new hurdle.
Meanwhile, other spoilers for the upcoming season indicate that there is still a possibility for Brandon and Grace to be together. As seen in season 4, Grace's mother was determined to leave town with her. It seems that something will come up that will keep them from leaving, and this will serve as an opportunity for Brandon not to let go of her.
"The Fosters" season 5 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on Freeform. The second half of season 5 is expected to premiere in 2018.
