When "The Blacklist" season 5 returns, it will continue the story of Liz (Megan Boone) and how she will cope with the death of her husband, Tom (Ryan Eggold). Since Tom's death has something to do with the suitcase, reports indicate that the upcoming episode will be dealing with the said suitcase.

Tom's mother, Scottie Hargrave (Famke Janssen), will arrive to comfort Liz and to know what really happened to her son. Although others speculate that Scottie will blame Liz for her son's death, this is not what will happen. Promotional photos show that Scottie reaches out to hold the hand of Liz, while she grieves for her husband's death. The two will comfort each other after losing one important man in their lives.

Things are even tougher for Liz since she is not in a good condition. After what happened in the apartment, she was left in a coma for almost a year. She will only learn about Tom's death when she wakes up with Red (James Spader) by her side. Reddington will break the news to her about Tom's demise. This will be very hard for Liz to accept, but she needs to recover fast so she can find out who killed Tom.

Liz will learn that Tom was targeted by a blacklister because of a suitcase of bones. She is unaware about this, and she will just realize that her husband is still keeping a secret mission from her. What makes matters worse is the involvement of Red. Everything points to Red, which will make Liz hate him. Liz will even blame Red for the death of Tom.

In order to recover, Liz will be left to live alone in the woods. However, it appears that she is now the target of the blacklister since Tom is already gone. Will Liz be able to protect herself? Whose bones are inside the suitcase and why are many people after it? Reports reveal that the upcoming winter premiere will tackle about this suitcase.

"The Blacklist" season 5 episode 9, titled "Ruin," will air on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
