'The Blacklist' season 4 spoilers: preview shows Red being confronted by Liz; Kirk gets punched

Liz and Red in "The Blacklist" NBC

The mystery of the identity of Elizabeth's (Megan Boone) real father will be one of the things that will be dealt with in "The Blacklist" season 4. A new clip released for the new season delves into this very dilemma.

In the clip, Liz thinks about the only memory of her father that she has left and a tragic one at that. It happens to be the night of the fire that took the life of her father, at least that's what Red (James Spader) claims.

Liz knows that Red was there in that moment, something that he did not deny. This prompted Liz to ask if Red is her father. There was no answer to that, but Red only said in "The" Blacklist" season 4 clip that Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) was not either.

Fans will remember that in the previous season, Kirk kidnapped his supposed daughter and claimed to be her father. "Alexander Kirk is fundamentally dishonest," Red said.

In another "The Blacklist" season 4 preview, Kirk made his attempt to make Liz realize the truth (if he is not what Red claims to be) that the man who was protecting him all along and the man she desperately wanted to get away from that she faked her death is a "spiteful evil man."

While Kirk's relationship to Liz is as vague the one she has with Red, the former will help her step closer to solving the mystery.

However, in an earlier Entertainment Weekly interview with executive producers Jon Bokenkamp hinted that there's still some credence to Kirk's claims and that Red could be the one lying.

After all, Red has never been completely honest to Liz as he only tells her the partial truth.

"I don't know why we wouldn't believe him. Red's said before that he's not Liz's father. This man shows up in her life and says he's her father. Liz should take him at his word," Bokenkamp said.

"What I do promise is that Alexander Kirk and his relationship to Liz will ultimately give us a far deeper understanding of Red's relationship to Liz in season 4," he went on to say.

In "The Blacklist" season 4, Kirk will experience "the fury of Red." Also, it appears that he is not doing well with convincing her "daughter" as the clip shows Liz punching Kirk in the face.

"The Blacklist" season 4 premieres Thursday, Sept. 22 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
