'The Blacklist' season 3 spoilers: Red to meet old flame

Liz is not worried about getting a fair trial at the moment. When "The Blacklist" season 3 returns next year, the former FBI agent will be more concerned on getting to that hearing in one piece, in the face of the threats of the mysterious organization known as Cabal.

The last time fans saw Liz, she was arrested and imprisoned inside the glass box at the Post Office. It isn't much of a feat to have her in clutches because this would only make it easier for the Cabal to eliminate her before she exposes them.

"As much as it's a victory for our task force to capture her, it puts her in almost greater danger," show creator Jon Bokenkamp told Entertainment Weekly. It will be up to Red to make sure Cabal won't lay a finger on Liz.

"It's a race against the clock for Red to enact whatever his plan is that he's been working on for the last eight episodes. It's time for things to fall together, and that is going to be fun," Bokenkamp went on to say.

"The Blacklist" season 3 will be back with a two-part special titled "The Director." Bokenkamp has also teased that Samar, who was kicked out of the team by Ressler, will find herself working with Red "in some capacity."

Meanwhile, it looks like the latter half of the season will also shed light on Red's past relationships. As per TV Line, the show is currently in search of a woman who can play the role of Red's old flame Catherine, a "beautiful, exotic and sophisticated daughter of a prolific illegal arms dealer" he once sparked romance with.

Catherine will be making an appearance in episode 13 of "The Blacklist" season 3. At the moment, it is still unclear how she will play out in the current goings-on. The NBC drama returns on air on Jan. 7 with the first part of "The Director" at 9 p.m. ET.
