Kara goes down memory lane in "Supergirl" season three.

The Danvers siblings are on their way back home in episode 6 of "Supergirl" season 3. However, heading home means remembering the past, and half the time, the past is full of bad memories.

The official synopsis of episode 6 of "Supergirl" season 3 reveals that Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Alex (Chyler Leigh) head back to their hometown at Midvale for some rest and relaxation. However, while there, Kara remembers a painful memory of her childhood friend dying and how that experience brought her and Alex closer together.

The little vacation is definitely a much-needed one, especially for Alex. The latest episode marked the end of her relationship with Maggie (Floriana Lima) due to them determining that they wanted different things in their marriage. It certainly broke the hearts of many who loved and adored the couple, but it was only a matter of time before it would happen, especially after knowing that Lima was going to exit the show after five episodes.

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg delved into that breakup a little more in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Alex and Maggie were already in the midst of planning for their nuptials. Alex later realized that she wanted the option to have children. However, Maggie never saw kids as a part of her future, which led to their breakup.

Kreisberg shared that while they loved having Lima on the show, she was set on doing it for one year. They had this hope that she would sign on for another year, but Lima decided to move on. So, they asked her to come for the first five episodes of season 3, which would lead to them properly winding down her character's story.

Had Lima stayed, then Alex and Maggie's wedding would definitely be happening by the mid-season finale. Kreisberg revealed that they knew early on that Lima was not going to stick around for more than a handful of episodes. So, the writers never got to sit down and tried to figure out what the couple's storyline would be other than their wedding.

Kreisberg still has hope that Lima would return on the show though. He said that Lima is always welcome to return and if they are able to come up with the right story, they would love to see her back.

"Supergirl" season 3 airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
