The third season of "Supergirl" is about to become even more exciting for fans. It has been revealed that "Brainiac 5," a half-computer, half-organic life form and a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, will be a recurring cast member in the season and will be fighting alongside Supergirl to defeat the villains lurking in National City.

According to TV Line, Jesse Rath will play the role of Brainiac 5. In its official character description: "Half computer, half organic life and boasting a 12-level intellect, Brainiac 5 is a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes who travels to National City from the 31st Century to help Supergirl and the DEO battle Reign."

Rath will first make an appearance in season 3 episode 10 entitled, "Legion of Super-Heroes." In the Comics, Brainiac 5 and Supergirl will develop a relationship that strays to something more than friends. This is what co-showrunner Andrew Kreisberg hinted as a follow-up in the later part of the series.

"Someone down the road will like Kara a lot, which will be a lot of fun," Kreisberg said.

Brainiac 5 will join another Legion member, "Saturn Girl," in the third season. The role will be played by Bollywood star Amy Jackson, and is also set to be a recurring character throughout the season.

"Supergirl" main star Melissa Benoist thinks that the show's twist on introducing iconic characters is exciting. "I don't wanna tease too much, but the fact that the Legion is coming to the show, it has such a hold on the comic book world," Benoist said.

"Especially with Superman, Supergirl, and Martian Manhunter. It's really exciting for us. For Kara, it's a brand new set of problems that you'll see pretty quickly!" she added.

Kreisberg explained that season 3 will see Supergirl's greatest nemesis, "Reign." Hence, the superhero needs all the allies she can get. The Legion will play a big role in that area, and it remains to be seen whether other members of the Legion such as "Cosmic Boy" and "Lightning Lad" will make an appearance in the series as well.

Catch "Supergirl" every Monday at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
