Stephen Curry's father talks about his son's 'God-given abilities' mixed with hard work

There is no denying the success attained by Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry. As can only be expected, his father Dell Curry, who is also a former NBA player, is mighty proud of his son's achievements.

During a recent interview with Philly.com, Dell revealed that his son's talent on the court was the result of God's blessings mixed in with a lot of hard work.

"It's just God-given abilities in different ways and you just have to develop those skills that you have and try to work on the ones that you're weaker at, and I think that is what Steph has done every year. Every summer he has gotten better," he said. "He has changed parts of his game—even from a leadership role. That is a part of the game that makes your overall game better. I think he's worked on that as well."

Jason Richards—a basketball staffer at the University of Pittsburgh who was also one of those who discovered Curry while he was still playing basketball for the Charlotte Christian School—is in awe of how far Curry has come.

"I could tell he had a gift for work ethic," Richards said. "He's always looking to improve. Always in the gym extra time, in the summer doing stuff. He's a gym rat, always there. Never seen anyone like it. He'll work on anything. You can see that. Look at his ballhandling, his passing. His shooting was always out of this stratosphere. He came back after freshman summer and he was unguardable."

Richards said it's "crazy" to see Curry work so hard, but it's because of his dedication to his craft that he could "go down as one of the greatest of all time."
