Nintendo Switch exclusive game "Splatoon 2" just received its biggest free update yet, consisting of some major changes to gameplay, gear, battle stages, and more. Nintendo first made the announcement about the update on Nov. 21, with the first part already released on Nov. 23. The second part of the content will be rolled out in mid-December.

The highlight of the first phase of the update is the release of the new battle stages, namely: "MakoMart," "Shellendorf Institute," "Walleye Warehouse," and "Arowana Mall." The release of these stages will span out in the next couple of weeks, with "MakoMart" first being available to play in Black Friday. The

"MakoMart's" overall design is partial to a real-life superstore like Walmart and Costco. The developers behind "Splatoon 2" thought it would be timely if the newest battle stage would be released on Black Friday itself, so players of the game will feel especially festive as they explore the contents of the new update. "Shellendorf Institute," "Walleye Warehouse," and "Arowana Mall" all came from the original version of the game.

Aside from the new battle stages, the latest update also includes a new "Salmon Run Stage," new gear comprised of over 140 pieces, new battle music from new bands "Bottom Feeders" and "Ink Theory," and new hairstyles – two each for male and female characters.

Additionally, the update increased the level caps of the game. Before, the level cap was maxed at out at 50, but with the new update, the new max cap is at level 99.

Long-time players of the game will also be relieved to hear that gear swapping will now be possible without having to exit the lobby, which was a nuisance players first found frustrating before the update.

A new trailer was also released, highlighting the contents of the huge update. In the release of the second phase of the update, a new Ranked Battle mode will be introduced, called "Clam Blitz."

"Splatoon 2" is available to play exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
