'Spider-man: Homecoming' sequel plot news: To feature Gwen Stacey?

'"Spider-man: Homecoming" was definitely a breath of fresh air for Spidey fans. The producers' idea to do away with the usual (and overused) back story and the film's light, quirky scenes that eluded the last three films gave viewers a much needed break from the dark, uncharacteristically serious turn that the character has taken.

Despite the movie's drastic change in tone, several recognizable characters from the previous movies have made it to the reboot, such as Aunt May and Flash Thompson.

While fans responded positively to Peter's "homecoming" love interest Liz Allan, some still felt that it wasn't quite the same without his long time high-school sweetheart Gwen Stacey.

As it turns out, however, Marvel is already planning to include the character to the sequel. What started out as rumors were recently given proof when Cinemablend.com reported that an audition tape showing Gwen Stacey offering condolences to peter parker surfaced online.

The audition video, which was a little over a minute long, was later learned to be from Vimeo user Iris Haller, who also did lines of Gwen speaking to her father, police officer George Stacey.

Initial rumors suggested that this version of Gwen Stacey will be a foreign exchange student, rather than the blonde American girl that the comics have introduced.

If the movie does go through with this version of the character, it would answer the question of some fans as to why Gwen Stacey wasn't present in the first film.

It would also make her the fourth character in the film to undergo major changes from their counterpart in the comics, behind Aunt May being much younger, Flash Thompson being a science nerd rather than a stereotypical jock, and "MJ" being a quick-witted loner with dark hair rather than the popular redhead.

Spider-man will return in May 2017 to battle Thanos in "Avenger's: Infinity War."
