Shovel Knight Amiibo release date: preorders for Lucas and Gold Mario Amiibo now open in Japan

The Shovel Knight amiibo Yacht Club Games

Yacht Club has found a way to avoid supply shortage of the Shovel Amiibo knight but it entails a lot of waiting. While gamers in Europe will be able to get their hands on the figurine starting Dec. 11, players in North America will have to wait until Jan. 8 to take one home.

"[P]roduction difficulties forced us to choose between rushing to ship a tiny, insufficient number of Amiibo units before Christmas, or ship a good healthy supply of stock to North America just after Christmas," Yacht Club explained in a blog post.

"We've received hundreds of emails bemoaning the difficulty in finding some of your favorite Amiibo ... so we made the decision to launch the Amiibo in January so there would be enough units available. Hopefully, this later date will make buying a Shovel Knight Amiibo easy and fair for everyone," the company added.

Notably, the Shovel Knight Amiibo grants more to Wii U. Using it on the said console will endow players a batch of new customization options that will allow them to change the character's look. New weapons, relics and abilities can also be unlocked in the new Challenge mode added in the solo and co-op version of the game.

Shovel Knight Amiibo retails for $12.99. Yacht Club also advises gamers to wait for it to be released in their area or region. That way, they are likely to snag one and will no longer need to buy from another region that requires having the figurine shipped or buying a much pricier one from scalpers.

Meanwhile, the Lucas and the Gold Mario Amiibo are apparently on pre-order in Japan. Buyers can head to Amiami for the former, which is scheduled to ship mid-December. Both Amiibo (Gold Mario and Lucas) are up for grabs in Amazon Japan and are listed to be released Dec. 17.

It also appears that the Animal Crossing series are also available for pre-order from both retailers and they are likely to be shipped the same time as the aforementioned Amiibos.
