Shelby 1000 release date, specs, price news: Limited production starts in 2018; big overhaul in performance and appearance

The Shelby 1000. Shelby American

As the times change, so do the cars, and the cars that will be introduced next year are definitely going to be a big change from the usual automobiles that are in the market today. Car lovers were in for a treat when the 2018 Shelby 1000 was recently revealed to the public at the Specialty Equipment Association Show in Las Vegas.

The 2018 Shelby 1000 will be powered by a new engine that puts out a big 1000 horsepower. In order to deliver this, the newest Shelby track car features a 5.2 liter V8 engine with a 4.5 liter Whipple supercharger, a 90 degree crank as well as modified GT350 cylinder heads.

The new track car will also feature a high-flow fuel system as well as an upgraded transmission and a new intercooler among many other things.

Shelby American
president Gary Patterson said that the new Shelby 1000 is a demonstration of their commitment to delivering top American performance in their automobiles, from the highways to the track. Patterson continued that they plan to stay in first place.

In actuality, the 2018 Shelby 1000 actually puts out less horsepower than the previous generation, the 2012 to 2014 model year GT500s, specifically 200 horsepower less. However, Patterson stated that a car's performance does not entirely rely on horsepower. The newest track car happens to have all its major elements to make sure that it performs well on the track.

Apart from the internal features, the appearance of the new track car is also upgraded. It has a new front fascia, hood, coil-over suspension, custom bodywork, front fenders and rockers. A new chassis and a new independent front and back suspension are also included in the car.

The 2018 Shelby 1000 package will be available for the 2015 Ford Mustang GT models and up starting from $169, 995, which is exclusive to the Ford Mustang GT vehicle. It will also be available for the 2011 to 2014 versions of the GT500. It will move into production in early 2018 and release only 50 models per year.
