Samsung has already released a bunch of Chromebook tablets that run Google's Chrome OS. It has not yet been announced if a new Chrome-powered Samsung device will come up soon, although there are hints that an improved version of the hardware is underway. Specifically, the South Korean tech giant is reportedly prepping a detachable Chrome tablet with design similar to Microsoft's Surface gadget.
As reported by Engadget, the public can expect another entry in Samsung's Chromebook tablet collection, if the recent rumors are to be believed. Furthermore, the upcoming tablet is expected to boast hardware specs that are far powerful than the previous Chromebooks from Samsung. One of the major improvements will be seen in the camera department, sporting the Sony IMX258 snapper. To note, this is the same high-end camera used in LG's current flagship smartphone, G6.
Chrome Unboxed was the first to discover the codes hinting on the new Samsung tablet's arrival. This particular detachable Chrome OS tablet, known for its codename "Nautilus," has already been spotted back in November, but there were no major details leaked back then. This time around, Chrome Unboxed has learned that the upcoming Samsung tablet will highlight an impressive boost in performance, and a proof of this is the 7th-generation Intel Core chip to be used in the device.
Regarding the camera, the use of Sony IMX258 is a surprising twist for a Chrome OS tablet, especially that the previous Chromebooks have only featured shooters with 720p resolution at best. There are no hints about the design of the Samsung tablet, although it is expected to have a compact build due to its detachable configuration. The display size could not go bigger than 12 inches.
Phone Arena suggests that the new Samsung Chrome OS tablet might appear at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this January, although there is no certainty that it will happen. There is a chance that unlike the previous Chromebooks, the upcoming tablet will not have an entry-level price tag with the rumored Intel processor. Still, it is not likely that its price will be at par with the latest Chrome OS tablet, Pixelbook.
