Samsung, the South Korean multinational conglomerate company, is reportedly trying to get the jump on its rival Apple by releasing its Galaxy Tab S2 this month.

According to Realty Today, Samsung is speeding up the release of its new flagship device so that it will have the benefit of a three month cushion between then and the date when Apple releases its own new line of tablet computers, which would include the iPad Air 3 and the iPad Mini 4.

The exact specifications of the Galaxy Tab S2 have yet to be released, but it is expected to be quite similar to Apple's iPad Air 2. If that is true, then Samsung's newest tablet computer will feature two different screen size options: eight inches and a slightly larger 9.7 inches.

Other specifications projected for the Galaxy Tab S2 include a 64-bit Exynos chipset, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, according to the Latino Post. It is also projected to have an 8-megapixel rear camera and will feature the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.

Aside from being comparable to Apple's iPad Air 2, Samsung's newest tablet computer is also expected to share some qualities with the Samsung Galaxy S6. It is unclear what most of them are at the moment, but one thing most industry insiders are banking on is that both devices will feature metallic frames.

The Galaxy Tab S2 was supposedly lined up to compete with the iPad Air 2, but given the timing of its release date, it is likely to have the market all to itself for at least a little while.

The Galaxy Tab S2 is rumored to already be undergoing the rigorous rounds of quality testing that the Federal Communications Commission usually puts electronic devices through, and if that is the case, then it could indeed be ready for release this month.
