Samsung Galaxy S9 release date, specs rumors update: Pre order date and price leaked

Samsung's latest entry in the S series is not scheduled to be announced until this February 25, but the mobile phone company just cannot seem to prevent any information from leaking out as much as they try to keep it under wraps.

A recent leak in the form of a picture of the said device's box revealed some of the latest features of the phone, including a camera that is rumored to match the Google Pixel 2 cameras, thanks to two rear lenses and special sensors that will be placed in the rear camera, allowing for slow-motion video recording with 1080p resolution at 280 frames per second, making it more advanced than the S8's video capturing which means any motion captured with the device will definitely be silky smooth.

Another rumor that seems to be close to a hundred percent confirmed is their new facial scanner that hopes to rival Apple iPhone's facial recognition feature, something that has never been present in previous Galaxy S series incarnations until the S7 introduced their retinal scanners.

The advanced facial recognition feature was teased through the leak, as the image that caught the attention of the internet showed that the new phone has a retinal scanner.

In a report by Cnet, the new "Intelligent Scan" is an innovative form of biometric scanning as it is a combination of Iris scanning and facial recognition. Not only will it unlock the user's phone, but the advanced scanners are also expected to enable the user to log in on any of their social media accounts just by holding the camera directly in front of their faces.

The new feature is supposedly very advanced that it can recognize a person's eyes and face even in low lighting conditions, something that the company had struggled to deal with in the past.

A post by ET suggested that Samsung will probably be selling the device at around $895 to $995, higher than the $875 initial price of the Samsung Galaxy S8.

The Galaxy S9 is scheduled for a March 16 release with pre-orders becoming available on March first.
