Samsung Galaxy Note 8 suffers from battery drain problems; company issues replacements for in-warranty devices

Owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 reported battery problems for the device. According to the reports, the device becomes totally unresponsive when its battery drains down to zero percent.

Users have said that when the battery life of the Samsung Galaxy Note drains to zero, it becomes unresponsive even to charging. Reports said that when in this state, the device will have no indication of the battery charging, be it wired or wireless. The light-emitting diode (LED) indicators will be off and the screen and buttons will be unresponsive.

Some reported that the body of the Galaxy Note 8 will still warm up, though. This indicated power is going through the system.

Still, there were people who reported that the problem is affecting them the other way around. They meant that all the indicators that the phone is charging will be there. However, the phone will not actually be charging and will remain in between zero and low charge.

Samsung has acknowledged that problem. They have been providing replacements for those who have affected units, although the unit has to still be under warranty.

The company has no official report as to the cause of the problem. Some speculate that this is because of software issues, although the company has not been able to isolate what apps or Android version is concerned.

Then again, the problem only affects the United States model of the latest Samsung device. This led some to speculate that the problem is caused by the Qualcomm 835 SoC chipset installed in the US models.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 models outside the US use the Exynos chipset, which is built by Samsung itself.

This is not the first time that Samsung has gotten into battery issues for its devices' batteries. Just last year, a number of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 batteries caught fire and exploded while charging, leading to a massive device recall.
