Following the launch of the mid-range Samsung Galaxy A8 and A8 Plus smartphones earlier this month, the South Korean tech firm appears to be turning its attention once again to its entry-level devices. Particularly, the new Samsung 2018 J series is expected to arrive in the coming weeks, as the handset has already been spotted several times in different benchmarking sites recently. The upcoming smartphone, tipped as the Samsung Galaxy J8 (2018), is expected to launch prior to the high-end Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus release next month, running the latest Android 8.0 Oreo OS out of the box.

As reported by Android Headlines, the alleged Samsung Galaxy J8 (2018) has appeared in more than one benchmarking result for the past few weeks. The first benchmark listing for the smartphine came from GFXBench, suggesting that the Galaxy J8 (2018) was already tested while running the Android Oreo update. The suspected Galaxy J8 (2018) device has the modul number SM-J720F, which was first believed to be a new variant of the Galaxy J7 (2017).

It is rumored that the company has no new J7 versions coming up, especially since the J7 Pro (2017) was only released less than a year ago. With this, the SM-J720F device could be the Galaxy J8 (2018) instead, having almost the same device and features of the current J7 model.

To note, the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) sports a 5.5-inch screen display, the same size as the alleged Galaxy J8 (2018) smartphone from the recent benchmarking results. However, the latter boasts a slight screen resolution upgrade, having a Full HD display with 1,920x1,080 resolution instead of keeping the regular HD display with 1,280x720 resolution.

The Samsung Galaxy J8 (2018) is listed to have a 32-gigabyte (GB) built-in memory, doubling the storage capacity of the current Galaxy J7 model. From the J7's 3GB, the Galaxy J8 (2018) is going for 4 GB random access memory (RAM) capacity. The smartphone will be powered by Samsung's very own Exynos 7885 octacore chipset, the same processor used in the Galaxy A8 and A8 Plus devices. This chip is more powerful compared to the Exynos 7870 octacore SoC of the Galaxy J7 (2017).

Meanwhile, GSMArena reported that the benchmarking results from GFXBench and Geekbench reveal a 12-megapixel (MP) sensor on the rear, while the front camera gets an 8 MP sensor. Both cameras are said to be capable of shooting videos in Full HD resolution.
