Russell Wilson addresses controversy that he cancelled North Carolina wedding because of transgender bathroom law

NFL star Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks was supposed to tie the knot with Ciara in North Carolina. However, the two changed their mind after the state passed House Bill 2, which prohibits any city in the state from enacting ordinances that will allow transgenders to use restrooms coinciding with their preferred gender.

A lot of Christians celebrated the passage of the bathroom bill. Since Wilson is a well-known Christian, many people assumed he would be in favour of it as well.

However, when ESPN asked Wilson about it, he answered: "I'm just going to simply talk about, I just believe Jesus loves all people. That's honestly what I believe, and I just always constantly pray for world peace. I pray for peace in the world. I pray for joy."

The Wilsons' wedding planner, Mindy Weiss, disclosed that the bathroom conundrum compelled the couple to get married in England instead. "They were first getting married in North Carolina, but they called it off due to the transgender bathroom laws," Weiss said. "They wanted to be away. And we found a castle that was an hour out of Liverpool and they had about 110 guests."

The two enjoyed a surprise and secret wedding in front of 100 close friends and family at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire, England sometime this July. Ciara wore a customised Roberto Cavalli dress, designed by the label's creative director, Peter Dundas. She had six bridesmaids, including celebrity friends La La Anthony, Kelly Rowland, and Serena Williams.

Meanwhile, Ciara also opened up about married life with Wilson. "Everything is sweet, we are so happy," the 30-year-old singer told Page Six. "This is really the happiest I have ever been."

As for their wedding, Ciara gushed that it was "magical" and "perfect," even likening it to a "fairy tale."
