Russell Moore criticizes Geraldo Rivera for Matt Lauer sexual allegation comments

An American evangelical theologian, Russell Moore, troubled Fox News with his short yet meaningful comment on Twitter regarding Fox News commentator Geraldo Rivera siding with Matt Lauer who was fired by NBC due to a sexual harassment complaint.

Moore, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, expressed his displeasure at Rivera. "What a repulsive attitude. Courtship?'' tweeted Moore as a reaction to Rivera's tweets defending Lauer from being judged due to his inappropriate sexual behaviour.

In his Twitter post, Rivera stated, "Lauer is a great guy and a gentleman to his family & it seems like current epidemic of #SexHarassmentAllegations may be criminalizing courtship & conflating it w predation."

With so many negative responses on his previous posts, Rivera clarified his thoughts, explaining via the same social media platform, "I didn't sufficiently explain that this is a horrendous problem long hidden-Harassers are deviants who deserve what is coming to them-Often victims are too frightened to come forward in a timely fashion-I humbly apologize."

According to Deadline, a statement from Fox News says, "Geraldo's tweets do not reflect the views of Fox News or its management. We were troubled by his comments and are addressing them with him."

In the segment last Wednesday, host Kathie Lee Gifford of "Today" delivered her message regarding the issue about Lauer. She emphasized mercy and forgiveness as she quoted what the bible says.

"No person is perfect in this world. Nobody is. We've all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, is what Scripture says. And what we need now is forgiveness, and we need mercy for one another. We don't need taunts and we don't need ugliness. We have enough of that in the world. I send out my love right now to the person, whoever it is, that came forward. May God heal that person."
