The new UFC's Women Bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes has been very vocal of her desire to take on Ronda Rousey as her next opponent. Nunes earned the belt after defeating Miesha Tate locking her to submission on the first round at UFC 200. She stated that it is only natural to face Rousey as she is considered one of the best fighters of all time. She also said that defeating her could prove that she deserved the pedestal she now has.
"I'm going to beat Ronda Rousey and then wait for the next. I'm going to wait for her to prove to everybody one more time I deserve to be here."
Fans were shocked at the outcome of the Rousey and Holly Holm fight where Holm knocked out the undefeated Rousey. What adds fuel to the fire was when Miesha Tate, who lost two fights with Rousey, won the belt from Holm. Rousey was devastated at the outcome of that match since she understandably wanted to regain the belt from Holm. But then Nunes is the current champion and it is yet to be confirmed if Rousey will accept her appeal.
She stated that the title fight of UFC at Madison Square Garden on November 12 would be the best time for Rousey to come back and fight her for a match. "I also made history for my country, and this is a fight that makes sense for that huge event, one of the biggest pay-per-views in the UFC. I will take my country with me, and she will be fighting in her country. I want this fight in New York. It will be historic," she said.
Nunes was also eyeing Julianna Pena if ever Rousey does not answer her call for a fight. But still, she was firm to believe that Ronda will soon come back.
Nunes was also asked about Rousey's loss and how it would impact her, being undefeated for years. She said that she was at an advantage compared to Rousey in facing defeat.
"She knows she lost. That's the problem. She was undefeated for a long time and doesn't know how to deal with a loss now. I started my career with a loss, getting 'slapped' by life. Ronda doesn't know how to deal with that. She fought inferior girls, and those girls fell in her game, that pressure from the UFC and media, and fell in the armbar. But that won't happen with me because I'm mentally stronger. And I have the belt with me. She knows that, and that's why she's avoiding it," she said.
