Various European GameStop websites (specifically Finland, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway) were recently discovered to have had "Red Faction: Guerrilla" for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms listed on their storefront, strongly hinting that a remaster is just over the horizon.
This information comes from Reddit user /u/Reqqu who posted this discovery on the Xbox One subreddit. These listings had already been removed at the time of this writing, but, if anything, that just adds more validity to the claim.
This is not the first time a potential new release by THQ Nordic was leaked due to a retail listing. In early 2017, a report by Gematsu revealed that Amazon had unknowingly announced the existence of "Darksiders III" by posting the product's page ahead of time. The developer then confirmed the announcement just a few hours after the leak. So, a similar event might occur again for this title.
THQ Nordic also is not one to shy away from remastering and re-releasing their older titles. Both "Darksiders" and "Darksiders II" received remasters for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC a few years after their initial release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
"Red Faction: Guerrilla" first came out for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in June 2009 with a PC release following shortly after. It garnered positive critical reception with a Metacritic average of 85 percent with many outlets praising the game's destructive environment and open world.
Unfortunately, the series came to a halt in 2011 when, due to the poor sales of "Red Faction: Armageddon," THQ abandoned the franchise. According to Eurogamer, Brian Farrell, the CEO of THQ at the time, said, "We do not intend to carry forward with that franchise in any meaningful way."
Fortunately for fans of the series, the "Red Faction" franchise was purchased by Nordic Games in 2013 after THQ filed for bankruptcy. This rumored remaster might just be their way of testing the waters for any new interest in the franchise.
