Fans of the original 2004 western-themed video game, "Red Dead Revolver," and its 2010 follow up, "Red Dead Redemption," were more than delighted when Rockstar Games announced that it would indeed be releasing the long-rumored third installment in the franchise, "Red Dead Redemption 2." Over the past months, the company slowly released clues regarding their planned launch, to which there was an enormous amount of positive reaction.
The CEO of Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two, spoke during the recently held MKM Partners event where he expressed his thoughts on the upcoming new game and revealed some details about what they have planned for it. Strauss Zelnick mentioned that they really weren't expecting this much of a positive response for the upcoming game, but they were very pleased by it. Zelnick further explained that the millions of views that the announcement trailer has garnered only served to show them how enormous the overall anticipation was for the game.
The Take-Two CEO further explained that they really didn't think a western video game would interest players nowadays, but it seems like the upcoming sequel might have managed to capture the imagination of the public. He then revealed that because of this, they will be bringing out another game that will be a "sprawling, optimistic view of America again."
While there wasn't really anything concrete that was revealed about the game, some fans have speculated that Rockstar may be building a separate online mode for the game similar to that of "Grand Theft Auto 5." If this is indeed true, then players may soon be able to have gun duels and perform stage coach robberies with other players online.
"Red Dead Redemption 2" is expected to be released in the fall of 2017 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A PC version hasn't been announced yet, but is likely to come out right after the release of the console versions.
