The past few years have seen the dawn of virtual reality (VR) gaming. The VR platform has already made its way to the gaming consoles, particularly the PlayStation 4 following Sony's announcement of the PlayStation VR headset back in 2016. In 2018, it is expected that more games with mixed reality contents will arrive, and the VR gaming itself will boast significant improvements. Thus, the rumor mill suggests that it will not take long until players get the PlayStation VR 2.0 in their hands.

According to Fast Company, tech and gaming analysts have high hopes that the VR craze will linger on for the years to come. In fact, the year 2018 is expected to introduce changes in most of the standalone VR gaming platforms, including the PlayStation VR headgear. As the VR industry continues to grow, the analysts expect that it can be worth a staggering $38 billion by 2026.

To note, the VR hardware did not have a promising take-off, especially in those two years after the first mixed reality headset arrived in the market. There are a number of reasons why console players have preferred enjoying their favorite game titles without a VR gear, although things have changed dramatically as more people are attracted to its appeal. Tech firms such as Samsung and Oculus have developed their own VR hardware, namely the Gear VR and Oculus Rift, and more companies have latched on to the trend. There are also speculations that Sony is also working on the next generation of its current VR headgear, which will be called the PlayStation VR 2.0.

Sony has yet to reveal any plans to develop a new version of the PlayStation VR, although its huge progress in the VR field so far supports this possibility. As reported by Siliconera, Sony is expecting an 80 percent increase in VR game development for the entire 2018. As of now, the company already has 150 titles with VR support, and there are over 100 video games to be added soon in Sony's VR collection before the year ends.

Sony has already sold around 2 million units of PlayStation VR so far, and this figure is more than enough to convince gaming developers to create titles in VR platform. The public has yet to see if Sony will meet the target 130 to 180 games with VR contents in the next several months.
