With only a few days left in December, it is high time to look at the next lineup of free video games from the PlayStation Plus subscription. The official list of free games for January 2018 has yet to be announced, although players already have their hot take on what featured video games should appear in the catalog this New Year.

Sony usually includes at least one huge title every month in the PlayStation Plus free games lineup. To recall, 2017 was opened with a bang with the PS Plus list headlined by "Day of the Tentacle" Remastered Edition for PlayStation 4. The game can also be played via cross-purchase on PS Vita console. This time around, the rumors are rife that another gigantic AAA game will lead the New Year's lineup, with most players thinking that it would be "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag."

The latest "Assassin's Creed" installment was first released back in October 2013, which serves as the sixth additional title to the main "Creed" game series. "Black Flag," tells the story of Edward Kenway, who embarks on a journey across the Seven Seas to save mankind. The game was first launched in PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U, followed by the release of next-gen consoles PS4 and Xbox One, as well as PC platform, in November 2013.

Meanwhile, PlayStation Universe speculates that the PS Plus January 2018 free games list will reserve one spot for yet another title from Telltale Games. PlayStation Plus subscribers might already be used to seeing at least one Telltale video game making it to the free games catalog every month, just like "The Walking Dead." For the New Year, it is likely that the next free PS Plus game from the studio is the PS4 title "Batman: The Telltale Series."

The DC comic book-based video game was first released in 2016, which is composed of five episodes. It is possible that each episode in "Batman: The Telltale Series" will be included in the PlayStation Plus free games lineup every month. However, the same with other episodic titles featured in PS Plus, the game might also be packaged with all episodes in.

The official list of free games for PlayStation Plus is usually revealed on the last Wednesday of each month. For this coming period, the last Wednesday will fall on December 27th.
