The popular shooter "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" ("PUBG") is getting closer to its 1.0 release and the game is expected to leave Steam Early Access before the year ends. In addition, The Game Awards organizers promise to reveal actual gameplay footage for its new desert map at the said event later this month.

The Game Awards organizer Geoff Keighley revealed the details in a tweet. Keighley said that the "first-ever gameplay" of the highly-anticipated desert map will take place on Thursday, Dec. 7.

The desert map was long teased to be set in a desolate terrain. As expected of ancient deserts, ruins will be scattered all around the play area. There will be some low buildings as well, but most of the map will feature vast, open land.

Along with these updates, "PUBG" will also employ a new climbing and vaulting system which will nicely complement the game along with its new maps  and its terrain features.

Images of the new desert map for "PUBG" were already released in the past. However, the Dec. 7 event will be the first time players will see it in action. This is the first-ever official gameplay released for the map. Owing to that, it has become a milestone for both "PUBG" fans and attendees of The Game Awards.

The live gameplay demonstration will be one of the highlights of The Game Awards 2017, as "PUBG" is currently one of the most popular multiplayer games. During its Steam Early Access, the shooter gained a lot of praise as the playerbase kept growing.

"PUBG's" appearance in The Game Awards is of course already expected by fans. The popular shooter is nominated for three awards including "Best Ongoing Game" and "Best Multiplayer." It is a contender for the "Game of the Year" Award, alongside "Horizon Zero Dawn," "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," "Persona 5," and "Super Mario Oddyssey."
