A Texas pastor is asking God to strike down a UFC fighter with a lightning bolt after the latter said he would "whoop" Jesus Christ if he were alive.

Pastor Donnie Romero of the Stedfast Baptist Church launched a verbal attack on MMA fighter Conor McGregor who was quoted by TMZ as saying that not even Jesus Christ could beat him in the octagon.

"There's not a man alive that could beat me. But Jesus isn't alive so maybe he could come back from the dead, I don't know. I'd still whoop his ass," McGregor said, according to Raw Story.

Romero reacted to say, "I'm gonna pray that God strikes this guy dead."

"He said me and Jesus are good because, you know why, because gods recognize other gods," the pastor said. "He said if Jesus Christ was in the ring with me, I'd knock him out! The guy is a UFC fighter. That guy is nothing."

The pastor said the fighter "let money go to his head, he's got pride, and look, let me tell you this, the bigger they are, the harder they fall, my friend."

"That guy, I'm going to pray that God strikes him down with a lightning bolt!" Romero said. "So everybody in the world believes that the Bible even a little bit will know that it was God, it was Jesus that struck him down."

He said Christians who are fans of the fighter should be ashamed of themselves.

"He can just look down and with his little finger just say, 'So, boom! Some catastrophic event because he's a wicked person. And if you watch him and you're a fan of his and you call yourself a Christian, shame on you! You're not right with God! It's wicked as hell," the pastor said.

McGregor is the current UFC featherweight champion.
