Following the launch of the OnePlus 5's iterative "T" update last December, the rumors are rife that the handset maker is gearing up for another flagship release in the coming months. This speculation has been confirmed recently by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, hinting that the OnePlus 6 could see the light of day by the second quarter of 2018.

Even as OnePlus is currently enjoying high sales of the OnePlus 5T in the global market, the company revealed that another handset will arrive in this year's second quarter. In an interview with CNET reported Roger Cheng at last week's Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Lau confirmed that a new OnePlus smartphone is coming up soon, although he did not specify the exact name of the device. Nevertheless, the public is anticipating that the next handset in line is none other than the OnePlus 6, according to Forbes.

The anticipated second quarter launch of the new OnePlus handset matches the annual flagship launch schedule of the company. To note, the OnePlus 5 was launched in June 2017, and going by the company's timeline, the OnePlus 6 is likely to be unveiled in the same month. Meanwhile, Lau also revealed that OnePlus is preparing to distribute its products in the United States via telecom carriers like AT&T and Sprint. This would help boost the company's sales in the country, given that most users purchase their smartphones through the carrier's installment scheme.

Lau did not give much details regarding the new features and design of the anticipated OnePlus 6, although he teased during the interview that the upcoming smartphone will be powered by the latest high-end mobile chip from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 845 SoC. Lastly, the OnePlus CEO revealed that the famous Face Unlock of the OnePlus 5T is finally coming to the older OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T models. OnePlus executive Carl Pei earlier announced the plans to bring the new biometric feature to other handsets, with the OnePlus 5 being the first in the list.
