The OnePlus 5T was recently launched, and some have been able to get their hands on the latest model. However, many are wondering whether or not the 5T is better than, just as good, or not as good as the OnePlus 5.
Android Headlines has made a comparison between the two. For starters, it can be noted that the two smartphones are a little different from each other in terms of appearance. The OnePlus 5 however, has a more dated look with smaller bezels as well as a 16:9 display ratio. The OnePlus 5T, has a much bigger display with smaller bezels, and a display ratio of 18:9. The fingerprint sensor is placed at on the front of the OnePlus 5, while it is placed at the back of the OnePlus 5T, which makes the smartphone look a lot sleeker.
Both phones use the Optic AMOLED display, as well as Full HD display that is protected by Gorilla Glass. The two are also similar internally, with some changes made to where the camera is and the software that the phone has. The downside is that neither of these phones are resistant to water and dust. OnePlus made a few tweaks to the camera area that might not make sense for some. There is no more optical zoom, so users have to resort to a digital zoom.
Both phones also run on the same SnapDragon 835 processor, with an Adreno 540 GPU and a base memory of 6GB/64GB of RAM and memory with an optional 8GB and 12 GB versions of the models. The 5 and 5T also use a dual camera setup of 16 megapixels and 20 megapixels. However, the 5T uses an aperture of f/1.7 on both lenses, but the front camera is the same on both versions.
Perhaps, one of the most important features to know about is the battery life of both the OnePlus 5 and 5T. They have similar batteries at 3,300mAh with the OnePlus exclusive Fast Charge. As previously mentioned, the 5 and 5T have a ceramic fingerprint sensor but the sensor for the OnePlus 5 is in front while the 5T has it at the back.
Both the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T also share Bluetooth 5.0, a USB Type-C port, an Alert Slider, Face Detection, Hi-resolution Audio, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and run on Android 7.1.1. The latter can be upgraded to Android 8.0 first thing next year.
As for the price tag, naturally the 5T is much more expensive given that it is the newest model and it was recently released. The OnePlus 5 ranges from $480 to $520 while the 5T retails between $500 and $560.
All in all, the OnePlus 65 and the OnePlus 5T are pretty similar in most aspects. The only differences lie in display ratio, the positioning of the fingerprint sensor, and the aperture on both camera lenses.
