Nintendo Switch news, updates: Netflix app in hybrid handheld remains a possibility

The Nintendo Switch has become a big hit among the console players since it was first launched in 2016. Just like its competitors, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the portable hybrid console has a long list of functions, aside from letting the users play the popular game titles today. Although, many Switch users are wondering if the Netflix app will make it to the console, to which a Nintendo Switch responded positively.

As reported by the New York Post, the Twitter account for Nintendo's customer service posted a tweet regarding any plans to introduce Netflix into the Switch. The first response from Nintendo did not bode well for the hopeful users, saying that the company is not considering it as a possibility.

Fortunately, Nintendo's Twitter account seemed to have taken a step back regarding the matter, as the original tweet has already been deleted. The post was replaced by another message that contradicts the earlier tweet. At this point, Nintendo stated that its doors are not completely closed to include the Netflix in the Nintendo Switch's lineup of applications.

"We are still exploring the opportunity with Nintendo, but don't have definitive plans to share at this time," Netflix tweeted. If ever Nintendo pursues to add Netflix to the Switch, this will give the console another plus factor over its competitors. To note, both the PS4 and Xbox One supports Netflix, as well as other video streaming apps such as HBO, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu.

Tech Times pointed out that the Nintendo Switch has the perfect build to serve as a home entertainment system. Thus, it would be a missed opportunity if Nintendo fails to include Netflix in the Switch's app list, given that Netflix has a huge collection of high-definition movies and TV shows to stream.

The rumored arrival of Netflix on Nintendo Switch is supported by a preview teaser for the console's firmware version 5.0. The video, which was shared on YouTube, claims that the new firmware can support video streaming, thus giving Netflix a good chance of being included in the console. Although, some people doubt if the video is legitimate, as there are some inconsistencies in the presentation of Nintendo Switch features.
