Nintendo Switch firmware 4.0.0 news: Video capture now included for select titles; improved activity log

The Nintendo Switch Nintendo/Switch

Software updates can either make things better or worse. In the case of the Nintendo Switch, their latest firmware update proved to bring in some great improvements. Of course, they were not without some downsides.

The latest system update for Nintendo Switch brought in a lot of changes beneficial for players who are often on the console. There are also some new features being brought in. Perhaps, the most notable feature that is now included for Switch is the video capture.

For a while now, the Capture Button on the left Joy-Con controller could only be able to take screenshots. As of this update, players can now use this feature to show off videos of their gameplays. Simply press and hold the Capture Button until a beep is heard. This will capture the previous 30 seconds of gameplay and it will be saved to the album.

Players can then edit the footage and share it to their various social media platforms. Players could also select screenshots from the footage.

The only downside to this is that the feature is only available for four titles so far: "Mario Kart 8" Deluxe version 1.3.0, "ARMS" version 3.1.0, "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" version 1.3.0, and "Splatoon 2" version 1.2.0.

Another notable update to the console involves the data transfers. With this update, players can transfer user profiles and saved data to another system. This also includes any eShop purchases that are made. The downside to this is that all the data will be deleted on the source console, so this cannot be treated as a backup feature.

The other new features included in the latest update include new profile icons that feature characters from "Super Mario Odyssey" as well as "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild." There will also be a pre-purchase option available for selected titles on the Nintendo eShop. Apart from the new features, there are some improvements that were made for the existing features, like the console's activity log.

The activity log is known for being anything but precise when it comes to tracking down a player's play time. The update has it working a little more accurate now.
