Fans expect to hear from Nintendo about the highly anticipated and tightly kept Nintendo NX by January at the earliest. When the console was first announced to be in development, the game studio maintained that no details about the device will be revealed until next year.
Thankfully, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima spoke about the console in a message the company's business plans in the years to come. Notably, the statement did not do so much as to re-establish Nintendo's desire to make a groundbreaking step in its gaming ventures.
"For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed 'NX' with a brand-new concept and our unique software-led hardware-software integrated business will continue to constitute the core business for Nintendo," Kimishima, who succeeded the late Satoru Iwata, said.
The Nintendo president also emphasized that it will be trying its hand in the mobile gaming business to engage more consumers, even the non-gamers. Kimishima also touched on Nintendo's plans to establish attractions and theme parks based on their beloved franchises.
Going back to the Nintendo NX that the manufacturer continues to shroud in mystery, rumor has it that the console will come with a touchscreen controller that ultimately ditches the traditional A, B, X and Y buttons for functions specific to the context of the game being played.
Instead of navigating through options, players can simply tap on a specific function. For example, the controller will provide an icon for a shop, and will give players the option to perform a certain move without having to push a button combination.
A patent document also hinted that this controller can function as a standalone device, like a handheld, but can also be connected to the main console. It has always been said that the Nintendo NX will not be a version or an upgrade of a Wii U but something else entirely.
With 2016 closing in, fans hope that Nintendo will finally spill the beans as to what the new machine is all about and at least provide a timeframe as to when gamers will finally see it in action.
