'New Mutants' movie spoilers, plot news: Two latest teasers hint at Wolfsbane's past and strength of Cannonball's power

A few weeks ago, the first trailer for the upcoming "New Mutants" movie was released. It definitely showcased the horror movie feeling that it claimed to be. Recently, 20th Century Fox released two more teasers for the film, and they are all just as chilling as the other.

Shared on the film's official Twitter account, the first teaser is a five-second video showing two crucifixes in a bowl, with the message "The sins of our past." A shadow suddenly hovers over the objects. The shadow may be of the Demon Bear's, the creature the mutants face in the comics, but the crucifixes seem to hint a bit of Rahne Sinclair a.k.a. Wolfsbane's past.

In the comics, the mutant, played by Maisie Williams, was raised by an abusive pastor, Reverend Craig, played by Happy Anderson. The abuse paired with the religious views of Reverend Craig resulted in Rahne discovering that Craig is actually her father, having had a child with a prostitute as well as the manifestation of her mutant abilities, allowing her to transform into a wolf.

The second teaser might also be referencing either one of the two characters previously mentioned. This time, it is a 10-second clip showing a window with a bright light shining through and captioned "Some things can't be caged." It also shows a dying canary on the sill. Then again, it could also be a reference to Sam Guthrie a.k.a. Cannonball, played by Charlie Heaton.

In the comics, Sam is trying to step up as the man of the Guthrie household after his father passed away from working in the coal mines. He takes up his father's job and one day finds himself in a dangerous situation when the mine shaft suddenly collapses with him and a family friend in it. The sudden threat triggers Sam's power to generate thermo-chemical energy, which he would use to drive himself through the air. Upon using his mutant ability, he ends up saving his friend from the collapse, while outing himself as a mutant.

The canary in the teaser is a reference to the bird's use in mining operations, where they are used to detect any harmful gas or fumes in the place. Paired with the caption, it can be speculated that this hints how dangerous Cannonball's power can be.

The "New Mutants" movie will premiere on April 13, 2018.
