New 'Cloverfield' movie pushed back to April 2018

10 Cloverfield Lane. The second spiritual sequel to the "Cloverfield" series 10 Cloverfield Lane

It was recently announced that Director J.J. Abrams' third "Cloverfield" movie has been rescheduled by Paramount Pictures — again.

After the announcement in 2012 that "Cloverfield 3," which has been given the title "God Particle" was already in development and scheduled for Feb. 2, 2017, Paramount decided to move the release to Feb. 2, 2018. However, fans were curious as to why there were no trailers or promotional images released during this window and many expressed doubt as to whether the movie will really make it in time.

In a report by entertainment website IGN, Paramount has decided to do another reschedule for the movie giving it a new — and hopefully final —April 20, 2018 date, which will release the film a full decade after the first "Cloverfield" movie was released.

The "Cloverfield" franchise is known for having "spiritual successors" or sequels not entirely related to the previous movie. The first movie was a something of a Kaiju — or giant monster —flick. It focused on a group of survivors trying to escape the city when a gigantic creature suddenly emerged from the depths of the ocean and threw the biggest tantrum the world has ever seen. The film was also unique for having a first person view.

The second movie, titled "10 Cloverfield Lane" was a psychological horror-thriller about a group of people trying to co-exist inside an underground bunker after the outside world succumbed to an unknown attacker. The film was formerly titled "The Cellar" prior to its release.

The upcoming third movie is currently titled "God Particle," although it might still be renamed to give it some sort of connection to the franchise. It follows a group of astronauts trying to survive in outer space after making a terrifying discovery.

"God Particle" will star David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Elizabeth Debicki, Ziyi Zhang, Daniel Brühl and Chris O'Dowd. People may recognize Oyelowo from his other space adventure movie "Interstellar" alongside Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey.
