It seems that NBC is trying once again to develop an American remake of the very popular British sitcom "The IT Crowd." The network has also tapped original series creator Graham Linehan to write and executive produce the show.
According to Variety, Universal Television will also serve as producers while Patrick Daly and John Rolph will be co-executive producers with Linehan. Other details have yet to be determined.
This is NBC's third attempt at getting an American version of "The IT Crowd" off the ground. The first attempt was in 2007, a year after the first season of the British series premiered. Richard Ayoade reprised his role as Moss from the original series while Jessica St. Clair played Jen and "Community" star Joel McHale portrayed Roy. Needless to say, it only got so far as the pilot.
NBC tried a second time in 2014, placing a put pilot commitment with Bill Lawrence but that did not pull through either.
Will NBC be successful this time around? It remains to be seen, but knowing that Linehan is on board to create this version of "The IT Crowd" might serve as an assurance for the fans who loved the original sitcom. Upon the announcement, Linehan tweeted that fans should expect the American remake to be different from the British series.
Alongside Ayoade, the original series starred Chris O'Dowd, Matt Berry and Katherine Parkinson. It was on the air for four seasons with a one-hour series finale that aired on Britain's Channel 4 in 2013. As the name implies, the show focuses on the lives of the employees working in the IT Department of a big company.
This would be the second Stateside remake of a British series following "The Office," which ran for nine seasons compared to its original counterpart that only had two.
