The reviews are out for the new movie "Mom and Dad," which received favorable feedback from critics who generally praised the depraved comedy and Nicolas Cage's rip-roaring performance as Brent.

The horror-comedy was produced XYZ Films and directed by Brian Taylor, and it received an impressive 81 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a site that averages review grades from various entertainment outlets. Here are what some of the reviewers had to say.

Ben Croll from IndieWire remarked, "'Mom and Dad' has the same depraved verve, sick humor and berserk pulse of the 'Crank' series, and what's more, marries all that to an operatic Nicolas Cage performance in full on nutzoid mode."

Meanwhile, Matt Donato from We Got This Covered expressed, "If you get excited by the thought of Nicolas Cage destroying a pool table via sledgehammer while screaming 'The Hokey Pokey,' 'Mom And Dad' is the movie for you."

Finally, Leslie Felperin from The Hollywood Reporter stated, "The kind of rip-snorting, relatively cheap and cheerful black comedy the industry doesn't make enough of anymore, 'Mom & Dad' is a deliciously lurid throwback."

The story is about a mysterious incident wherein moms and dads suddenly turn violent on their kids and try to kill them. Apparently, this happens for only 24 hours and takes place worldwide. The focus of the movie is on the Ryan family where dad Brent and mom Kendall (Selma Blair) succumb to that terrifying switch in their minds, which makes them hostile towards their children Carly (Anne Winters) and Josh (Zackary Arthur).

Cage gives an off-the-wall performance much like in his past films "Face Off," "Gone in 60 Seconds," and "The Wicker Man." It remains to be seen if the Carly and Josh will be able to make it out alive.

"Mom and Dad" is set to premiere on Friday, Jan 19, in theaters nationwide.
