'Minecraft' release date for Nintendo Wii U console coming really soon

Minecraft Wii U Mojang

"Minecraft" has finally found a new home in Wii U. At long last, the hit sandbox game by Mojang is coming to the Nintendo console on Dec. 17, a perfect Christmas treat to gamers in the platform who have been waiting for their turn to build and battle in The Nether and beyond.

Along with the game are six fan-favorite add-ons and expansion packs. One of which will be the Festive Mash-up, which players can use to spruce up their place just in time for the Christmas season. Gamers can also go for other themed texture packs like Fantasy, Natural and City.

Players couldn't miss the pair of Battle & Beasts Skin Packs, where they could get a whole host of warriors hailing from various eras and regions. There will be gladiators and Vikings and a whole lot more. Animals like baboons and crocodiles are also included.

New gamepad controls for the Wii U will also be accessible. But for "Minecraft" gamers to make the most of their Wii U experience, there will also be a total of 16 add-ons up for grabs. Here is the complete list of those DLC as provided by Nintendo:

  • Festive Skin Pack
  • The Simpsons Skin Pack
  • Doctor Who Skins Volume 1
  • Doctor Who Skins Volume 2
  • Star Wars Classic Skin Pack
  • Star Wars Rebels Skin Pack
  • Star Wars Prequel Skin Pack
  • Mass Effect Mash-up Pack
  • Skyrim Mash-up Pack
  • Plastic Texture Pack
  • Candy Texture Pack
  • Cartoon Texture Pack
  • Steampunk Texture Pack
  • Pattern Texture Pack
  • Greek Mythology Mash-up Pack
  • Halloween 2015 Mash-up Pack

These skin packs are optional and Mojang promises that the game, even without these add-ons, already promises buckets of fun to those who merely choose to embark the unique adventure. "Minecraft" Wii U edition is priced at $29.99. Gamers can download it from the eShop starting Dec. 17.
