The movie adaptation of the highly popular sandbox open world video game, "Minecraft," has been in the works for quite a while now, but it seems like fans still have a while to wait until the movie is released. However, new developments have apparently now popped up and it seems like the movie finally has a star in the form of veteran actor, Steve Carell.

The game's developer, Mojang, has been in talks with Warner Bros. to produce the film since 2014. Until now, there hasn't really been any movement in regards to the production of the film, apart from the developer announcing its scheduled release date earlier this year.

What is known so far is that the movie was reportedly going to be a "big-budget" film and that it will be coming out on May 24, 2019. Mojang even tried to explain to fans that the long wait was going to be worth it and that the time they are asking for is the "right amount of time to make it completely awesome."

As for Carell's part in the movie, the actor hasn't really revealed much about the character he would be playing in the film and only confirmed that he was in fact in negotiations to become part of it. Warner Bros. has also neglected to comment about the casting itself, but there should be some announcements coming out soon seeing that casting is now obviously underway.

The upcoming film will be directed by Rob McElhenney, who also worked on the popular comedy television series, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." With both Carell and McElhenney involved in the project, the movie is expected to be an edgy take on the franchise with tons of laughter and crazy antics. "Minecraft" is a well-known and beloved franchise around the world and the movie is expected to tap into that popularity. With Mojang directly involved in its development, fans should expect a film that will truly bring the boxed world into life.
