Microsoft Windows 10 releases Timeline feature in test build, which allows resuming tasks across Windows 10 devices

Microsoft has rolled out a slew of new Windows 10 features for Fast Ring Testers. This new test release will include Sets and Timeline, a feature supposed to be included in the Fall Creators Update.

The new test build is officially called Windows 10 Build 17063. Of the numerous features included in the release, Timeline will be the most interesting for professionals on the go.

With Timeline, users can resume their apps and activities across their Windows 10 devices. Interrupted tasks can be continued on another device, thanks to the synchronization provided by Timeline. This is similar to the "Continuity" feature found in most iOS and macOS apps.

Timeline will work with Windows 10 applications. The functionality will also extend to Microsoft apps on the iOS and Android eventually, through the digital assistant Cortana.

Users can get an overview of all the activities that run across Windows 10 devices through Timeline. It also provides easier access to the most recently used apps. These can all be done by viewing the features on Windows 10's Task View.

Sets are also introduced in the test build. This feature is pretty much like "tabbed browsing" that is common in most desktop browser interfaces in use today

Sets groups programs in one neat window, with tabs separating them. This is so that the different applications can be accessed in one neat interface.

As of this time, this tabbed approach is exclusively available for Universal Windows apps. However, the functionality will be extended to Microsoft Office and Win32 apps next year.

There are also miscellaneous updates included with the test build. For instance, Cortana gets a new Organizer home, wherein users can manage lists and tasks. The digital assistant can also now be used to control Spotify music playback.

Microsoft's Edge browser also gets a darker theme with better contrast.
