Despite Microsoft's radio silence, reports about the Microsoft Surface Book 2 continue to swirl. Rumor has it that the sequel to the blockbuster laptop from Redmond was delayed.
The first Surface Book was released October last year so it was natural for users to expect a sequel the same month this year. However, this won't be the case for a couple of reasons.
Since the Microsoft Surface Book 2 is poised to come with the Intel Kaby Lake processor, which won't be available until next year. The other thing is that the tech giant wants to wait it out for the Redstone 2 update on Windows 10.
This update packs new features and upgrades for the operating system, which should allow Microsoft to cook up more unique offerings for the Microsoft Surface Book 2.
Also, it goes without saying that the Kaby Lake is worth the wait. For those who do not know, the chipset is the successor of the Sky Lake, which powers the most premium of personal computers available today.
Sky Lake is also the source of power of the current Surface Book, so it would not make sense for Microsoft to use it on the second-generation laptop.
In addition, the Kaby Lake also promises a whole host of improvements for the Microsoft Surface Book 2. Its low power consumption should prolong the laptop's battery life while still improving its performance.
A processor like it can handle 3D and 4K display resolution. There will also be tons of hardware and software enhancements to boot.
However, for now, Microsoft is filling the gap left by the absence of Microsoft Surface Book 2 this fall with three Surface AIO or All-in-One PCs, which are allegedly being tested as of this moment.
One variant will be a 21-inch at full HD resolution. The second model will reportedly come with a 24-inch 4K display and the third one is 27-inch with the same 4K resolution.
As for the Microsoft Surface Book 2, a spring launch is expected.
