Microsoft Surface Book 2 release date, specs news: Kaby Lake ready for September debut? Laptop may have October launch

Many of the upgrades on the Microsoft Surface Book 2 will be made possible by the Kaby Lake, the seventh-generation processor from Intel. The definitive new chipset is also the reason the laptop could be ready by this year.

As per the latest leak, there will be two versions of the processor, one of which – the Intel KBL-U – will be used on 100 laptops and two-in-one devices and will be released next month.

It will boast 15W TDP or thermal design power, which Wccftech points out, is the level that a machine like the Microsoft Surface Book 2 will need.

The information comes from the slides obtained by Benchlife that details Intel's roadmap for the Kaby Lake. The site claimed that the Kaby Lake could debut by September.

The interesting part is that the "ultra-thin notebooks for consumers and small businesses" will be released during the fourth quarter of this year.

Since the Microsoft Surface Book 2 was expected to be released this October, which falls on the release schedule stated on the leak, the hybrid might make it to an October launch after all.

Interestingly, another leak suggests that Intel Kaby Lake quad-care processors mainly for desktops will be released in December. It is unknown if this will affect the Microsoft Surface Book 2 launch.

It was previously rumored that the Surface Book sequel is not coming this year and Microsoft will instead release three Surface All-in-One personal computers.

The Intel Kaby Lake processor will make for amazing upgrades in the Microsoft Surface Book 2. In a leaked benchmark listing, it was revealed that it will cater to 4K Ultra High-Definition or HD decoding.

As revealed in the past, the Kaby Lake will also help Microsoft bulk up its second-generation laptop with long battery life and lower power consumption while incorporating a slimmer design.
