Mercedes-Benz has introduced camper van concepts for the new X-Class. These concept vehicles demonstrate the pickup truck's potential as a base vehicle for camping trips and off-road adventures.

According to the German automaker, more and more people are using their campers for trips to remote locations that require going through off-beaten tracks. The converted X-Class pickup trucks prove to be capable companions as they come with off-road capability, comfort and safety features for long journeys and are equipped with living areas that have all the essentials.

The first concept features a demountable cabin developed by bodybuilder Tischer. It has a 6.5-feet headroom, a comfortable sleeping system via a 60-inch wide alcove, a kitchen with a three-burner gas stove, and three seats that can be transformed into a second bed. The cabin also comes with an integrated bathroom that has a fold-away wash basin and a swiveling toilet.

Meanwhile, the second X-Class camper is a conversion concept that provides travelers with an integrated kitchen. Developed by VanEssa Mobilcamping, the pickup truck's bed has been equipped with a heavy-duty pull-out module that weighs around 550 pounds.

The built-in kitchen system comes with a cooler, sink and storage for supplies and crockery. A second pull-out module offers additional space for other items.

The load compartment is protected by a cover make front teak wood, the same material used on yacht decks as it is known to be water-resistant and durable. There are pneumatic struts that allow the cover to be propped up at a 45-degree angle for ease of use.

Mercedes-Benz has not announced if they will release production versions of the camper concepts. Regardless, U.S. customers should not expect too much as the X-Class is not slated to arrive stateside.

The German automaker will display the two camper van concepts at the Caravan, Motor, Touristik (CMT) show in Stuttgart, Germany from Jan. 13 to 21. Apart from the camper van concepts, Mercedes-Benz will also display three Marco Polo campers at the trade show.
