'Marco Polo' season 3 release date, spoilers: Benedict Wong expected back but Kublai Kahn may die

Will Benedict Wong return as Kublai Khan in "Marco Polo" season 3? YouTube/Netflix

"Marco Polo" season 3 remains to be up in the air, with streaming giant Netflix yet to make the renewal official. However, fans are confident that the show will be back.

Netflix renewed the show for a second season less than a month after it aired. It's been almost a couple of months since the second run ended, but Netflix is yet to reveal the fate of the show.

The streaming company does not necessarily follow a pattern in renewing its shows, but the company has already said that they take a lot into consideration before pulling the plug or continuing its shows.

However, it does not help that Netflix does not release data on the number of viewers its shows rake in. The same can be said in "Marco Polo" season 3. But as far as viewer reception, a renewal is possible.

"Marco Polo" had a shaky arrival with critics not entirely taken with the series. The second season of the series was a bigger hit than the first one, which premiered to a mixed reception.

According to IMDB, the sophomore run received a score of 8.1 out of 10 based on the ratings of 40,000 users who provided ratings.

Meanwhile, even if "Marco Polo" season 3 will happen, reports say that cast member Benedict Wong who plays the role of Kublai Khan, will not return to the show.

It is being said that he is busy with his commitments such as the Marvel film "Doctor Strange." However, the film is already in post-production and will be out this November.

While Wong will certainly be doing some promoting, it looks like he could still be part of "Marco Polo" season 3. The actor has no other projects lined up, at least according to his IMDB profile.

However, even if he will be in the new season, it is reported that he will eventually be killed off there by a new enemy he will face.
