The LG G7 is one of the most anticipated flagship smartphones to arrive in early 2018. Tech enthusiasts were expecting its appearance at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) expo, although it is now speculated that the G7 will be unveiled at a later date. The reason for the delay is the total redesign of the handset, possibly removing all traces of the previous G series models.
An anonymous insider from LG claims that it will time before the public sees the all-new G7 smartphone. The CEO of LG Electronics, Jo Seong-jin, reportedly ordered the total revision of G6's successor, and the product will be developed "from scratch," according to The Korea Herald.
LG also took the stage at the CES last week, but not to showcase a new handset. Instead, the South Korean tech firm has announced that it will abandon the annual unveiling of its updated smartphones. It appears that LG will no longer attempt to compete with rival tech giants in launching a new mobile device every year. As for the LG G7, the handset was first believed to launch in February since its predecessor was released almost a year ago. However, with the company starting over with the G series smartphone, it will take more time for LG to showcase the new G7, GSMArena reported.
Nevertheless, the public will likely hear more about the LG G7 in the coming weeks, since the company still looks determined to release the smartphone within this year. The insider source claims that the final launch date for the handset will be announced sometime near the Lunar New Year holiday in February. If the rumors are anything to go by, LG might release the new G7 this April.
LG's recent statement regarding the future of its smartphone line-ups would mean that the LG G7 will not be the only device having a delayed launch date. It is also speculated that the LG V30's successor will also be released at a later date. To note, the new V series handset is usually launched during Fall. The good news for now is that the G7 project will push through this year, and it is more likely to retain its name, contrary to earlier reports that the next model in the G series will follow a new two-digit numbering.
