It has not been very long since the release of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, and unfortunately, some people have already run into some problems. There have been many reports making rounds online regarding an issue that some users may have experienced in terms of the smartphone's battery.
Several users of the newest iPhone in Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan, have recently posted photos of their devices which showed the screens separating from the body of the phone. The issue was reportedly caused by the expanding battery, which is similar with the situation regarding the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 that ended up getting taken off shelves after some phones started catching fire.
The first case of the expanding battery came up in Taiwan. A lady called Mrs. Wu shared that her 64GB iPhone 8 Plus had suddenly popped open while it was charging. The phone's front display started to rise up after the device had only been plugged in for a few minutes, which resulted in the display to snap open a few seconds later.
Mrs. Wu said that she had only been using the official charger that came in the box. The news outlets in Taiwan soon reported that the local mobile carrier took the damaged phone back and passed it back to Apple for investigation.
The same thing also happened in Japan but in this case, the user had received it in this state and not because of charging. The third case was in Hong Kong, where a man called Mr. Lin shared photos of his iPhone 8 that also experienced the same issues as the first two.
The fourth and most recent case happened in China, where the new phone seemed to be split open from the sides. Although the exact cause has yet to be determined, it is believed that the battery swelling may be what forced the smartphone to split open, similar to the case that happened in Japan.
The Independent reached out to Apple to comment on the cases, and they said that they are currently looking into it. Naturally, users should expect a more formal announcement if more people have experienced this kind of problem.
