The iPad Air 3 is yet to be made official by Apple, and there are fears that it may not see the light of day in the end. It is being said that the Cupertino-based company is leaving the tablet line behind.

Although not announced during its recent event, Apple made some changes on the iPad models that it still has on the market. For starters, the 16GB version is no more, with the 32GB version taking its place while keeping the price tag of the former.

The iPad Air 2 doesn't come with 64 GB worth of storage anymore, and instead, a 32 GB model is now offered in its place in addition to the initially released 128 GB variant. Apart from this, no other changes were made.

For one, these tweaks suggest that Apple still cares for the iPad Air, which has not seen an upgrade last year. However, it also spells possible doom for the iPad Air 3.

While it is unclear what implications of these storage updates will have on the tablet line, the fact that Apple put out a 32GB version suggests that it will continue to sell it. However, this might just mean that Apple simply wants to do away with its supply of the tablet to prepare for the coming of a new version, which should be the iPad Air 3.

There are no concrete details about the existence of the third-generation iPad Air. In his latest research note that was obtained by Apple Insider, highly regarded KGI Securities Analyst Ming Chi-Kuo has not mentioned iPad Air 3, but mentioned a budget friendly iPad with a 9.7-inch display.

This is the same size as iPad Air models. Kuo says that this tablet will house an A9X processor. The expert did not specify whether it will be an Air-branded tablet, though.

Kuo said that this budget iPad will be released next year along with the iPad Pro 2 and a new iPad Pro version with a 10.5-inch display.

Despite the lack of concrete information, the iPad Air 3 is rumored to come with an improved screen resolution, a 256 GB version, a fingerprint scanner, and a thinner but sturdier build.
