iOS 11.2 news, update: Apple releases major update to allow faster wireless charging, fixes strange Dec. 2 notification bug

Apple iOS 11 preview in different Apple devices Apple website

The second major update for the iOS 11 was released last weekend, and it includes the big features that were promised back in the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) earlier this year. The iOS 11.2 now allows users to access the fast wireless charging technology of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X handsets. However, the iOS 11.2 also functions as an emergency update to fix the strange Dec. 2 bug that kept on crashing many iPhone and iPad devices last week.

As reported by The Verge, the iOS 11.2 formally introduced the fast wireless charging feature for the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus users. The earlier versions of the iOS 11 did not have this feature readily available for the latest iPhone products, which only offered the regular charging speed. This time around, the iOS 11.2 update allows up to 7.5-watt charging rate through Qi-based charging pads.

Another huge feature of the iOS 11.2 major update is the Apple Pay Cash, a new peer-to-peer payment service that was widely praised by the audience at the WWDC 2017 last June. Once the Apple Pay Cash server becomes operational, this feature will become available in the Messages app, allowing iPhone users to send money via iMessage.

This money transfer system is similar to Venmo, although in Apple Pay Cash, the value is deposited inside the Wallet app as Apple Pay Cash card. This card can be used to purchase items via Apple Pay, or users can opt to have the card exchanged for real money by transferring it to their bank accounts.

Perhaps the most important part of the iOS 11.2 update is the fix to a strange notification bug that rattled the iPhone and iPad users last Dec. 2. Specifically, this bug was spotted in the last iOS 11.1.2 version, making the devices crash when third-party apps like Springboard pop out reminders. It is reported that Apple rushed the release of the iOS 11.2 to solve the notification issue right away, as the iOS updates usually arrive on Tuesdays.

The iOS 11.2 also includes a fix to a new autocorrect bug that changes the world "it" into "I.T."
