Ben Seewald: 'If sin is the pattern of our lives, then we really don't love God'

Ben Seewald, the religious husband of Jessa Duggar from "19 Kids and Counting," has just shared a devotional about sin on the Seewald Family Blog, which he hopes would bless those who read it.

"Anytime we sin, it's a slap in the face of God. Our love for God is shown when we keep His commandments. When we break them, we are showing hatred towards God," he wrote.

Seewald stressed that Christians should look at sin seriously, and be reminded of the Bible verse 97:10 that says, "Ye that love the Lord, hate evil."

He then urged people to examine themselves, since even the born-again believer falls into the trap of sin. This brings them much grief, said Seewald, but if they let the sin continue and not work on changing for good, then something is very wrong.

"If sin is the pattern of our lives, this can be a sign that we really don't love God. If we say 'I love Jesus' but our actions prove the opposite...well, what's that old saying 'Actions speak louder than words.' Our words are empty and meaningless unless backed up by our actions," he said.

It is easy for people to "say" that they will shun sin, but to "do" it is a different thing entirely, he said. A lot of people also deceive themselves by saying they love Jesus, but their lives show the complete opposite. True Christians should be free from this hypocrisy, he said, and should love the Lord with true conviction.

"Sin is an act of spiritual adultery against the only One Worthy, the Lover of our Souls, who loves us even to death. Praise God that even though the struggle is real, and many times we fall, He is still working in us, and conforming us to Christ's image!" he said.
