The remaining days of 2017 are numbered, and the time has come to welcome the next wave of flagship smartphones, starting with the Huawei P11. The Chinese tech firm has yet to spill the beans regarding the new P series handset, although the rumor mill suggests that the device will sport a notch at the top display, similar to Apple's current flagship, the iPhone X.

XDA Developers were able to access some firmware files that will be used for the new Huawei smartphone. These files include a supposed render of the device, showing a small notch at the top of the screen. The files did not indicate specifically if the smartphone in question is the Huawei P11, except that it was given the codename Emily.

If the source of these firmware files is actually reliable, this reveals that Huawei is thinking about a major redesigning of the Huawei P series. The iPhone X-like notch feature will most likely to be present for the first time in the Huawei P11 next year.

Based on the image provided by XDA Developers, Huawei's take on the notch feature is a bit smaller compared to the iPhone X's notch. According to Tech Radar, the size difference may have something to do with each notch's function. For the iPhone X, the notch contains Apple's new 3D facial recognition scanner, a technology being used for the Face ID system. It is possible that the Huawei P11's notch is smaller because it will only include the usual front-facing camera.

Meanwhile, other reports have an interesting information regarding the Huawei P11's powerful camera feature. Specifically, an ad material for a mystery mobile device called the "Huawei PCE Series" has recently surfaced, first spotted by the popular tech tipster Evan Blass. He is confident in saying that the particular smartphone in the promo image is the upcoming Huawei P11. The image reveals that the handset will boast a 40-megapixel (MP) triple-lens rear camera, the first in the smartphone industry. It is also expected to sport a 24 MP front-facing image shooter.

Huawei has yet to comment on the rumored triple-lens camera setup of P11. That said, Blass noted that the promo image came from a partner ad agency of the smartphone maker, thus making his claim more reliable. As of this time, the said ad material was already taken down by the said agency.

The Huawei P11 is expected to launch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018, which will commence sometime in January.
